Online Pain Reprocessing Therapy FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is an evidence-based mind-body approach for chronic pain and other neuroplastic symptoms. It helps you understand that real pain can be driven by learned brain and nervous-system patterns, then gently retrain how those signals are interpreted. At Inspired Vita, Dr. Christine Williams, PhD, offers private online coaching that draws on PRT, somatic, and mindfulness tools to support dissolving neuroplastic symptoms—Finding Freedom from anywhere in the world.
Neuroplastic pain is real pain generated or maintained by the brain and nervous system, often after an injury has healed or when imaging does not fully explain symptoms. The nervous system becomes overprotective and keeps sounding a false alarm. It is also called mind-body, nociplastic, or TMS-related pain. Many chronic symptoms on Inspired Vita's homepage—back pain, migraines, IBS, fibromyalgia, and more—can have a neuroplastic component. A medical evaluation helps rule out issues that need medical care.
Yes. PRT education and coaching tools can be delivered by video. Inspired Vita sessions are fully online and open to clients worldwide—you meet by video from home. The landmark 2021 PRT trial included a telehealth physician assessment, and many PRT practitioners now offer remote sessions. Online coaching is not medical care or psychological therapy; it teaches pain-reprocessing, somatic, and mindfulness strategies you can practice between sessions.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for pain often focuses on coping, reducing distress, and improving function while living with pain. PRT places more emphasis on neuroplastic pain as a reversible brain-generated false alarm and aims to shift fear and threat beliefs about sensations themselves. Both can use education and mindfulness; PRT uniquely centers reappraisal and somatic tracking toward safety. Dr. Williams's Inspired Vita work is coaching informed by PRT principles, not CBT psychotherapy.
Pain psychologist Alan Gordon developed Pain Reprocessing Therapy. The first major randomized clinical trial was led by Yoni K. Ashar, PhD, and colleagues and published in JAMA Psychiatry in 2021. That research helped bring PRT into wider clinical and coaching practice. Inspired Vita's Dr. Christine Williams, PhD, a former health professor and PRT practitioner, offers online coaching that draws on this approach to support clients dissolving neuroplastic symptoms.
No. Neuroplastic pain is real. All pain is produced by the brain, and after tissues heal—or when no ongoing injury is found—the brain can keep generating genuine pain signals. Saying symptoms are neuroplastic does not mean they are imagined or your fault. It means the mind-body connection and nervous system play a central role, which opens a path to retrain those patterns through education, somatic awareness, and reduced fear—not through denial of your experience.
Inspired Vita coaching is for people with chronic pain or mind-body symptoms that have not fully responded to other approaches and may be driven by neuroplastic pathways. The homepage lists examples such as back and neck pain, migraines, IBS, fibromyalgia, Long COVID, POTS, pelvic pain, and more. Sessions are private, online, and worldwide. Coaching is not medical care or psychological therapy and does not diagnose or treat disease; clients remain under their own medical providers' care as needed.
Yes—it is wise to have appropriate medical evaluation to rule out conditions that need medical or physical treatment. PRT coaching fits best when pain or symptoms persist after healing, or when tests do not fully explain what you feel. Dr. Williams does not diagnose or treat disease through Inspired Vita; her coaching helps you apply neuroplastic, somatic, and mindfulness tools. Continue working with your physician or other licensed providers for medical decisions.
At Inspired Vita you book online, then meet Dr. Christine Williams by video from home. Sessions focus on understanding neuroplastic symptoms, calming the nervous system, and practicing pain-reprocessing, somatic, and mindfulness tools you can use daily. The aim is Finding Freedom—building safety and confidence so symptoms can dissolve over time. This is private coaching and meditation-informed guidance, not medical treatment or psychological therapy.
Yes. In a 2021 randomized clinical trial published in JAMA Psychiatry (Ashar et al.), 151 adults with chronic back pain were studied. After about four weeks, 66% of participants assigned to PRT were pain-free or nearly pain-free (0 or 1 out of 10), compared with 20% after placebo and 10% with usual care, with benefits largely maintained at one year. Individual results vary. Inspired Vita offers coaching informed by this science, not a guarantee of the same outcome.
It varies. The main research protocol used eight PRT sessions over about four weeks, plus an initial assessment. Some people notice shifts sooner; others work over several weeks or a multi-session package. Inspired Vita offers one-on-one sessions and 5-session packages online. Coaching pace depends on your history, goals, and how you practice between meetings. There is no promised timeline or outcome—progress is individual.
PRT was developed for chronic pain, and its principles are often applied to other persistent mind-body symptoms linked to a sensitive nervous system—such as fatigue, digestive distress, dizziness, migraine, or chemical sensitivity when medical causes have been addressed. Inspired Vita's homepage reflects many of these neuroplastic presentations. Coaching can support nervous-system safety and symptom reprocessing; it is not a cure-all and is not a substitute for medical care.
No. Dr. Williams provides private coaching, meditation teaching and keynote speaking. While she holds a doctoral PhD degree, her coaching services through Inspiredvita are not medical care, physical therapy, or psychological therapy. Coaching is designed to help you optimize your life and health through actionable strategies, not to diagnose or treat specific diseases.
